Colorado Leftover List - Should you Hold Out?

Colorado Leftover List - Should you Hold Out?

If you're still unfamiliar with the opportunity to nab amazing Colorado tags without burning your preference points, here are the basics:

Starting in 2019, when someone returns their hunting tag, whether it's an injury, family emergency, or a host of reasons, their tag gets put back into the pool of tags that can be purchased as Leftover Tags. Any tag on the leftover list can be purchased online, without using any preference points. That means that tags that normally take years to draw, are available for purchase without using your preference points. The PDF can be found at the CPW's website, but for those of you who are already taking advantage of our LeftoverList Alert System for getting notifications any time a tag you might be interested in shows up on the list, I wanted to put together a comprehensive analysis of last's years returned tags.

How Long to Wait Out?

How many 1 -4 point tags should you let pass by for the chance at a 5+ or even 10+ hunt? It can be tough to let those 'mediocre' limited draw tags go by, but for those that do wait, can have the chance at some of the hardest tags to draw in the state. I've compiled last year's data a few different ways to maybe help you decide when to purchase a tag, or to reinforce your strategy of waiting.

2019 LeftoverList Break-Down by Week

This is a break-down by week (the date is the sunday of the week) of the totals, averages and maxes based on residency and weapons to give you the clearest view of the tags coming back. This is a break-down by week and the times of day and day of the week don't seem to have a relative impact on the quality of tag coming through the Leftover List. Just know the PDF updates randomly Tuesday throguh Friday, 9am to 4pm MST.
